VICE PRESIDENT OUT OF LINE

The Vice President was off base in complimenting the refusal of veterans to see their WWII memorial. No mention by him of Camp David and the President's Golf course remaining opened and quite welcoming. Has it occurred to these elitists of wealth and liberal privilege that there are millions in this country wanting our veterans honored and treated with compassion and thankfulness for their service. Many of these brave veterans are either dead, wounded, or not wanted by these elitists. The Vice President should be required to apologize with deepest regret. What a sad day for this nation when a Vice President is this far out of line. Sad. Dr. Alan Phillips, Sr.

WE SUPPORT ISRAEL

Alan Phillips · University of Arkansas TO THE PRIME MINISTER OF ISRAEL, The Jerusalem Post, 9/30 You are totally correct in alerting the world to Iran's charm offensive and their meaningless words. Americans of all parties support the nation of Israel 100 percent. Iran's leadership has not diverted from their goal of producing nuclear weapons to ultimately threaten and destroy the Jewish nation. Please realize that we Americans are not fooled in the least by these sick Iranian lies and fabrications even if others in the administration are. We are solid in our support of Israel. REPUBLICANS FIX BAYONETS!

REPUBLICANS, FIX BAYONETS! A NEW LOOK AT CONTINUING RESOLUTIONS, C.R.’S Pat Buchanan has suggested the following use of continuing resolutions in funding the federal government. His idea in today’s WND is tremendously relevant to those who want to defund Obamacare, "If Obama vetoes any continuing resolution funding the government that does not contain Obamacare, who is shutting down the government then? Who is putting the U.S. economy at risk to protect a bollixed program the American people do not want and Congress would never approve if they voted on it today? What House Republicans have lacked is not courage, but a political and communications strategy. Having provided a continuing resolution to fund the government, except Obamacare, the House should next begin passing CRs – one for each department. A CR to fund defense and veterans affairs. A CR to fund state, the CIA and Homeland Security. A CR for justice, transportation, energy, etc. One every day. Would Harry Reid refuse to fund the U.S. Army and Navy unless John Boehner’s House stuffs Obamacare into the defense budget?”… Read more at http://www.wnd.com/2013/09/republicans-fix-bayonets/#YvPcqqASCyUvPU3L.99 Dr. Alan Phillips, Sr.

DR. PHILLIPS IN ALABAMA NOVEMBER 24-26, WHY I CAN'T SUPPORT OBAMACARE

Thursday, September 26, 2013 DR. PHILLIPS TO ALABAMA, SEPT. 24/26 In preparation for a statewide listening tour in Alabama to determine voters' opinions on important issues Dr. Phillips has sent brochures to most county Republican committees. While in Alabama he will visit, among others with a potential state coordinator I AM AGAINST OBAMACARE, With costs increasing, confusion over exchanges with some states participating while others do not, with the mandate and tax penalties plus other deficiencies apparent, I can't support this program. Dr, Phillips Strongly Agrees With Gallup Poll

Americans' Belief That Gov't Is Too Powerful at Record Level Record number of Republicans say the federal government has too much power by Joy Wilke PRINCETON, NJ -- Six in 10 Americans (60%) believe the federal government has too much power, one percentage point above the previous high recorded in September 2010. At least half of Americans since 2005 have said the government has too much power. Thirty-two percent now say the government has the right amount of power. Few say it has too little power. Trend: Americans' Perceptions of Governmental Power These most recent data come from Gallup's Governance survey, conducted Sept. 5-8. The 7% who feel the government has too little power has been mostly steady since Gallup started tracking the measure regularly in 2002. Republicans and Democrats Divided on Views of Government This new high encompasses Republicans (81%), who are now more likely than at any time since 2002 to say the government has too much power, and Democrats (38%), who now are more likely to say this than at any time since President Barack Obama took office in 2009. Republicans, Democrats, and independents have each grown more likely to say government is too powerful this year. However, Republicans' and Democrats' views have generally become more polarized since Obama took office. In 2002, the two parties were about equally likely to view the federal government as too powerful, at 36% and 35%, respectively, with independents, at 45%, most likely to say this. As the George W. Bush era continued, both Republicans and Democrats began to report higher levels of unease with the amount of power the federal government held. Between 2004 and 2007, the gap between the parties ranged from seven to 17 percentage points, with Democrats more likely than Republicans to say the government had too much power. During the 2008 presidential race, about half of Republicans and Democrats held this view. By September 2009, however, views became much more polarized: 25% of Democrats were concerned with the government's power, compared with 78% of Republicans. Since that low point, Democrats have become more likely to view the government as too powerful, with 38% this year saying so -- for a gap of 43 points between the parties. Do you think the federal government today -- [ROTATED: has too much power, has about the right amount of power, or has too little power]? Views by party GALLUP ANALYTICS: Sign up to learn how you can access Gallup's global database > Implications Americans -- specifically Republicans and Democrats -- have become more divided in their perceptions of federal power since the end of the Bush administration. Within a year of Obama's inauguration, Republicans' and Democrats' views on the issue diverged dramatically, leaving a gulf between the parties that remains today -- though the current 43-point partisan gap is smaller than the 53-point gap measured in the fall of 2009. A gulf between Democrats and Republicans on this measure is not unexpected, given the differences in Democrats' and Republicans' views on the role of government, as well as the level of comfort partisans feel while their party is in office. Though Republicans tend to be more skeptical of government overall, this concern was tempered while President Bush was in office. However, Republicans' concern reached new highs when Obama took office in 2009. On the other hand, though Democrats tend to be more comfortable with a more active government, more than half became concerned with the U.S. government's power toward the end of the Bush years. The presence of a Democratic president in office likely leads Republicans to feel especially skeptical of -- and Democrats especially comfortable with -- the amount of power the federal government holds, leading to the large gap between the parties seen during Obama's presidency September 23, Gallup Poll

AMERICAN DREAM IS ALIVE AND WELL IN LOCKRIDGE IOWA 9/14/2013

est Community My Disqus 99 ⚙ Share ⤤ A nice analogy to Abraham Lincoln's article in the Iowa Republican can be found in the local Lion's Club's sponsorship of Fun Day 2013 in Lockridge, Iowa. Some have sadly concluded that the American Dream of hard work, honesty, integrity, responsibility and vision with it's reward is dead. My wife and I found it dynamically alive in South Central Iowa's small town of Lockridge. This small town has one of the largest hearts of friendship in Fairfield county. We had on Saturday traveled from a neighboring state to meet dear friends in this quaint but vibrant town. Our friends suggested we meet them for lunch at Fun Day in downtown Lockridge. We noticed on arrival that all volunteers were providing a delightful day for children wanting to raise money for their local fire department and other special needs. When we arrived in down town we noticed the local park was filled with happy children, their parents and grand parents having great fun together as families and friends. We were welcomed by a senior member of the Lion's Club and had a Fun Day button attached to our coats. Next we were welcomed by ladies that had baked fresh pies, cakes and brownies for everyone. We witnessed also corn dogs, barbequed pork, snow cones and volunteers working and welcoming one and all everywhere, we were not treated as strangers, but family. Food, table service, and conversation were plentiful and all visitors were quickly welcomed into community, no exclusions. Young farmers, professionals, workers and retirees spent their day having fun and making us part of their conversation circles. No matter that the pies, cakes, food were made by senior guys and gals that probably fought aches and pains to make Fun Day special they were serving others. We are totally convinced after our trip to Lockridge that the American Dream and all it's energy is very much alive in it's people. Our day was made special by all our new friends in Lockridge. We are ready to return to the living American Dream next year. Dr. and Mrs. Alan Phillips

A CONSERVATIVE MANIFESTO

OUR CONSERVATIVE VALUES ARE STILL NEEDED TODAY, WORDS OF A COMMITTED REPUBLICAN This nation we call America was born in the midst of adversity. The search for freedom motivated its founders to establish a Bill of Rights and a Constitution that remains a marvel of the world. This land is a beautiful and varied space that features mountains, sea coasts, grasslands, prairies and some of the earth’s most esthetic benefits. Its people often give unselfishly to meet the needs of others at home and abroad in times of crisis. Some citizens give anonymously and like the unknown soldiers of the nation are often unidentifiable. America is a land of many faiths with guaranteed freedoms granted to all under its Constitution. We live in a land where dreams and hard work can produce, and foster new jobs for its residents. • America has given much to other nations and their families. Any future serious candidate for the presidency should welcome the opportunity to repay this country with sacrificial service through,  Restoring the founders vision of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness to all living in this great republic, communicating to all its citizens that work is still valued and rewarded in America,  Creating and restoring many of the jobs lost in recent years to the nation and its workers, to those desiring work,  Providing to all who live in this country respect for law, crime free streets, safe schools, parks, cities and towns that serve as beacons of hope and a bright future for others,  Restoring lower corporate and personal taxes, eliminating unnecessary regulations and loopholes for residents while fostering a government which is limited in size, and control over the rights of all Americans,  Freedom for citizens to work, play, and live in security, protected from international and domestic threats of terrorism, and fanatical rogue nations, through a strong military defense, • What should be the goals for America? As a nation we need to actively promote the promise of a better day for all our citizens. Any parent wants their children to experience the American dream of a good job, home. and better world,  Freedom to achieve and realize personal aspirations through work and perseverance,  A government that promotes the constitutional freedoms of all its citizens by removing unnecessary roadblocks to personal and financial achievement through excessive regulation and growth in government size,  A new commitment to American leadership and prominence in the world’s affairs,  A nation that keeps its word to those countries committed to helping all citizens to achieve prosperity and freedoms based on democratic ideals,  A nation that supports and honors its military in protecting and defending the nation from international terrorism and threats,  A nation that’s supports and encourages entrepreneurs, small and large businesses, through lower taxes, free enterprise incentives and the creation at home of millions of new jobs in future years,  A nation which promotes patriotism through community service, pride, personal sacrifice and strong support of individual effort on a daily basis to experience the American dream,  A nation where all workers retain more of their pay and savings as government taxes and debt are reduced and the budget is balanced,  An America that guarantees the right of individuals to practice their own religious faith and beliefs to flourish,  A nation which advocates life, encourages traditional ethical values and advocates free speech,  A legal immigration policy that rewards new comers to the American dream, This is an era that is witnessing the advocacy of many Republican voices, some of whom want the party to adopt a far more liberal stance while abrogating long held conservative values. I disagree with that supposition, believing instead that it is time for Republicans to renew their position on fundamental conservative freedoms and values that build honor, truth, trust, and success, in all Americans. op ed sent to ny times

OP ED ADVICE FROM GRAND PARENTS, TELL THE TRUTH With Washington D.C. now having to deal with issues of I.R.S. problems and probing questions of impropriety, Associated Press inappropriate reporter interrogation and intimidation, Benghazi truth examination in Congressional forums, and even additional unanswered questions, the elevation of truthfulness is paramount if America is to once again enjoy effectiveness and credibility on a global stage. Truth seeking is the only right answer if we truly desire to eradicate political and moral confusion in the land. At this moment it seems the blame game is at high tide in Washington, D.C. Blame is a factor in seeking the truth of any matter be it controversy or political question, yet honesty’s recognition is to primarily help assure all citizens that improprieties will not happen again. Responsibility for actions of malfeasance must be punished through accountability but understood as to their origins. Yet, what is the answer to restoration of a legal ethos which has often served America as an example to others? It must be the discovery of truth by Americans in discovering why today’s maladies occurred in the first place. If we can determine the why of exuberance leading to line crossing we can prevent by mutual agreement dangerous actions from being repeated by anyone in government service. I would hope that patient truth seeking will lead us as a nation to a model of integrity and truthfulness affecting all those in leadership responsibility regardless of political persuasion. Perhaps in this age of digital marvel, traditional old fashion values can both prevail and lead us to higher and nobler actions. Placing truth on a pedestal of priority would be a beginning for America. Alan and Mary Phillips Bloomington, IL

NY TIMES, MAY 5, HILLARY CLINTON, POST AGP

The Secretary of State bears major responsibility and culpability in the lack of protection and oversight of Ambassador Stevens and the others who died. In 2010 resources were positioned off shore by the department to rescue Hillary if needed when she visited Libya. Testimony confirms that she wanted the American Embassy opened in Benghazi by the time she left office to commemorate her service. She has brought dishonor, death and shame on the department she represented. Mrs. Clinton is neither qualified or equipped for the presidency. Hopefully she will not campaign. Dr. Alan G. GREAT CNS ARTICLE, ARCHBISHOP THOMAS WENSKI, AP Miami Archbishop: ‘Gay Marriage,’ Moral Relativism – Society ‘On Its Way To Totalitarianism’ April 30, 2013 By Michael W. Chapman Subscribe to Michael W. Chapman RSS Follow Michael W. Chapman on Twitter Archbishop Thomas Wenski, Catholic head of the archdiocese of Miami, Fla. (AP) (CNSNews.com) – Miami’s Catholic archbishop, Thomas Wenski, said establishing “gay marriage” would corrupt the natural setting for rearing children by a mother and a father, and further spread “moral relativism,” one of the signs that democracy is “on its way to totalitarianism.” The state has always recognized and favored heterosexual marriages “because such marriages best provide the optimal conditions for the raising of future generations of its citizens,” said Archbishop Wenski in an Apr. 24 homily at the Red Mass for the Miami Catholic Lawyers Guild. “And all honest social research as well as anecdotal evidence shows that children are ‘hard-wired’ to be best raised by a mother and father who are married to each other in a low conflict relationship.” In other words, he said, “it’s about what’s best for children. Only in the marriage of a man and a woman can ‘two become one flesh’ (Genesis 2: 24) and thus create a conjugal society – or family – which provides that the individuals who give life to children should be the ones to raise them in a bonded and enduring relationship.” The push for “so-called same-sex marriage, if it prevails,” said the archbishop, “will fundamentally change” the mother-father-children family and “open a Pandora’s Box of unforeseen and, to be sure, unintended consequences – as the more permissive no-fault divorce legislation did some 40 years ago.” “[T]he proponents of so-called same-sex marriage would now redefine marriage for all as existing solely for the gratification of two (and why just two?) consenting adults,” said Abp. Wenski. The archbishop, who represents 1.3 million Catholics in 118 churches in South Florida, said the push for same-sex marriage is just the logical consequence of the moral relativism found in Roe v. Wade and Casey v. Planned Parenthood, which “virtually establishes a new secular religion based on the ‘right to define one’s own concept of existence, of meaning, of the universe, and the mystery of human life.’” That is “moral relativism,” he said. St. Thomas More (d.1535), patron of lawyers and politicians. “When a democracy bases itself on moral relativism and when it considers every ethical principle or value to be negotiable (including every human being’s fundamental right to life), it is already, and in spite of its formal rules, on its way to totalitarianism,” said Abp. Wenski. “The might of right quickly becomes might makes right.” In ending his homily, the archbishop noted that America’s founding fathers established a society upon a “vision of freedom” in accordance with “ordered liberties” that are evident in the natural order, such as the complementarity of man and woman, and the right of children to a mother and a father – in short, as he cited from the Declaration of Independence, “We hold these truths to be self-evident ….” They are natural and obvious truths, said the archbishop, who called upon the legal experts and lawmakers in attendance at the Red Mass to remember the example of St. Thomas More, the patron saint of lawyers and politicians, who described himself as “the King’s good servant but God’s servant first.” Archbishop Wenski also quoted a phrase from Abraham Lincoln to argue that gay marriage is a legal construct not based on reality: “If you call a tail a leg, then how many legs does a cow have? Four, because calling a tail a leg doesn’t make it one.”

TERRORISM This word terrorism appropriately labels what happened to those involved with yesterday’s Boston Marathon. The American people on Patriot’s day had their basic freedoms violated because of terrorism. Contrary to news anchors, some politicians, reporters, and others, this word does not require a modifier. Whether it is revealed as domestic or foreign it is still incredibly destructive, terrorism yesterday resulted in the death, injured, and carnage of traditional freedoms people have enjoyed for decades. I retain no sympathy for those that perpetrated the crime, be they plotters, a system, or any motivator that took the life of a young eight year old with the others injured or killed. Call it what it is, whether you are a news anchor, media analyst, crime commenter, or anyone, terrorism is the word. The horrible act in Boston was criminal terrorism, plain, pure and simple, an attack on basic American freedoms. Media and internet outlets are filled with comments today like, reprehensible, brutal, carnage, innocents, etc., certainly those comments are warranted. Yet some in leadership and public position refuse to even use the word “terrorism,” in describing the brutal event that took place in Boston yesterday. Why is terrorism overlooked as a word in our national vocabulary by many notable individuals. Have we disregarded our history and freedoms for items of personal or political expedience? Does terrorism when used to describe the injury and death of innocent Americans offend someone’s friend, nation, system or faith system? Not really, terrorism calls death and injury of innocents by labeling the act for that which it really is, cowardice, immorality, lack of feeling, gross brutality, having no regard for human life, butchery performed without mercy. I label the awful event in Boston and the great Americans injured and killed as an act of terrorism which should be eliminated from the globe. My hope is that we find and dispense justice to any and all those cowardly perpetrators responsible for these deaths and injuries. God bless America, Dr. Alan Phillips

FOREIGN AFFAIRS, April 10, 2013 Strategic patience will not work with North Korea isolated from much of the global nations trying to prove their technological strength. They must know the consequences of their belligerent threats if translated into action. The North Korean military would be eliminated from the face of the earth. We cannot stop this paranoid nation without devastating action. Pre-emption is a must in our strategy. Sad that so many people will lose their lives, even possibly stationed American troops. Our administration and its Pentagon must know this is not a game. I support our nation's leaders in their actions. Dr, Alan G Phillips, Sr

Thursday, April 4, 2013

AN ATTACK BY NORTH KOREA WOULD BE A FATAL MISCALULATION The American people are highly resilient when attacked without cause by a dictatorial regime. They immediately coalesce in support of their president regardless of party affiliation. They are immediate in their support and volunteering to ramp up the nation’s military readiness for the conflict at hand. The American people will support the course of our president’s action. If the commander in chief calls for regime change their will be national support for it from all citizens. If the president determines an end to the country known among nations as North Korea it will cease to exist. Americans are no longer interested in entertaining irrational consultation, threats, and aberrant actions from North Korea. The time has arrived to confront its military leaders and the madness in particular of one. Like fellow citizens I will totally support and endorse the actions of our president and our military in dealing with this dictatorial regime. Alan G Phillips, Ed. D. FROM THE ECONOMIST, APRIL 4

Monday, April 1, 2013

NY TIMES, April 1 The danger of isolation and miscalculation seem in world affairs to reenforce each other. We currently have a young, isolated, limited individual acting as a leader for a large military population. Even the North Korean generals seem quick to agree with their leader and accept verbal assurances as their reward. In spite of China being a supposed friend they refuse to accept advice from the world's largest nation. Correspondingly they ignore the signs given to them by the world's strongest military power. They basically follow their young leader, an isolated self appointed dictator whose main line of thought is totally predicated on one dimensional stimulated response thinking. He and his followers will have to be dealt with overwhelming power at the sign of the slightest infraction, provocation orirrational movement toward the U.S. and it's allies. There is no alternative. Dr. Alan G. Phillips, Ed. D.

Friday, March 29, 2013

American policy makers must also make it clear to the Chinese and the Russians that although our quarrel is not with them we will react to North Korea's belligerance and threat with an immediate response. This rogue, starve the people nation must now feel the brunt of a response should they attack this country or any of our allies. The President must realize that he has the support from most Americans to deal with these threats and actions. When it comes to an attack on this land I will support the President of the United States in responding to these irrational threats and actions. The United States must take the threats of North Korea seriously. This rogue, isolated and war threatening regime will attack our nation with whatever is available to them. We need to prepare to respond overwhelmingly to them. We must destroy their military resources totally. We dare not fail to respond to their attack plans with massive force. They have laid the track for their total decimation due to their isolation. Dr. Alan Phillips, Sr.

Thursday, March 7, 2013

THE ECONOMIST, March 7, 2013 We hear again from North Korea. Most observers conclude the vociferous rhetoric to be a type of posturing, hyperbole personified by their leader. I do not. I agree with the administration that the most recent words are not suited to basketball diplomacy. The time has come to fully inform the North Koreans that the U.S. is capable of massive premption of them at any indication of a launch coming toward America's homeland. Dennis Rodman is not a conduit for American foreign policy toward any nation. Foreign policy comes from the channels of the State Department, Congress, and ultimately the presidency. We have such foreign policy leaders already in place and conveying the fate of this rogue nation if they miscalculate. The videos of this isolated regime threatening the U.S. is pathetic. Tubes and the missiles from just one nuclear American submarine could make their broken cease fire a permanent fixture on the peninsula. The North Korean leaders remain totally self isolated from reality making outlandish threats. Their threats and boasts will become the pillars of their own peril. Dr. Alan G. Phillips, Sr. Ed.D.

The public judgment will correct false reasonings and opinions on a full hearing of all parties, and no other definite line can be drawn between the inestimable liberty of the press and its demoralizing licentiousness. IS BILL O REILLY CORRECT WHEN HE STATES “WE ELECT POLITICIANS WHO ARE INCREASINGLY SCREWING UP THE COUNTRY” Whether you agree or differ with Bill O Reilly’s thoughts on a given subject one that’s honest has to admit to his intelligence and insight. Are we getting the finest servants in leadership looking at strictly the political class to serve the needs, aspirations and constitutional liberties of this great nation? Is it time to revalue the intelligence and honesty of our common people? AMERICA 2016, WHO WILL BE THE NEXT TRUE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE? There have always been surprises resulting from ranking and speculating about the person who will be a future presidential nominee. One would expect most of the names mentioned, would surface from a background of prior political service, becoming nominees in 2016. Yet, in recent weeks, in fact the last several years we have focused our attention on some leaders who were not only politically incompetent, but lived unethical, devious and dishonest lives. A few examples include former senator John Edwards, South Carolina governor Mark Sanford, senator Ingle, former Illinois governor Blagojevich, discredited president Bill Clinton, and many others have awakened us to the fact that prior political service is no guarantee of fidelity, honesty, morality and ultimate representation of the American people. This next election cycle I believe is witnessing an anti-incumbency modality hitherto not seen in recent years. We are told there are no perfect candidates, I disagree there are many outstanding Americans. Where should Americans search for qualified, honest, caring, moral, public servants? Obviously, the original founders looked among themselves for future servants of the people. The original fifty-five framers of our Constitution included; shippers, scientists, farmers, investors, retirees, lawyers, one minister, a college administrator, and most founders were citizens of good reputation. They were, “give me liberty or give me death” representatives of the people. Only nine of the fifty five actually worked for government compensation. Where will Americans discover the candidate who will work as their servant, committed totally to creating jobs, reducing taxes, promoting a strong economy based on free enterprise, constitutional liberties and our form of government? Will this future nominee be faithful to both civil (presidential) and all solemn oaths (like marriage) will the candidate’s wife and children be an asset to society? Will the nominee stand rock solid against radicals, lobbyists, special interest groups, rogue nations, terrorists and ultimately commit to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States so help him God, if elected? How will the nation decide on a true grassroots nominee who will serve for a dollar a year, in the tradition of the late John F. Kennedy? What path will lead us to this future President living and teaching traditional values, protecting small business, corporate growth, creating millions of new jobs at home? Will this person come to us through public relations imaging, political position, pseudo campaigns and photo opportunities? No, this servant will be identified while walking, working, living among the people, stating personal, national and personal constitutional convictions and listening to the advice and suggestions of the American public. His substance will be deep and committed for too often as a nation we have chosen celebrities and corrupt politicians over serious leaders. This nominee when chosen president will give 24/7 to protect and proudly lead this great country. This selected public servant by the people will give the nation pride and vision once again, in its history, and achievements. This candidate of the people will stand boldly in the global assembly of nations and proudly extol American individualism and achievement. As president, this individual will never apologize for America or bow a knee to foreign heads of state. This public servant will serve the nation exhibiting great force of will and personal compassion while unifying citizens in a common pursuit of excellence. The candidate chosen will ultimately be identified in the schools, homes, churches, schools, neighborhoods and hearts of citizens through their election process. That is how it will happen and when it does America will have given the nation an authentic intelligent public servant to face a time of great challenges. Dr. Alan Phillips, Sr.

WE THE PEOPLE We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America It is time to apply the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution to all future candidates that seek the presidency of the United States of America. A belief and personal commitment to the Preamble may be as important as the presidential oath of office. A servant must be sought in the future to fill this great honor of electoral process for the sake of guaranteeing the constitutional freedoms for all that have been defended by so many that have given the maximum in service to their country. WE THE PEOPLE, living, voting, working, children, young and retired Americans who believe in a nation of promise growing in job creation, opportunity, and promise of a brighter day. WE THE PEOPLE as opposed to those who advocate WE THE PAID LOBBYISTS-are the real people of the republic’s freedoms and constitutional guarantees. IN ORDER TO FORM A MORE PERFECT UNION moving ahead in a positive way leading to justice in the lives of all Americans. Whether rich or poor all must experience the benefits of justice and equality from the law. Included in the preamble is the promise of domestic tranquility, encouraging all citizens to work together for the good of all, not emphasizing division class and argument. The introduction to the constitution provides for the common defense of all Americans and avoids budget and personnel cuts that jeopardize the people’s safety. The general welfare of all citizens is also a standing priority of the constitution and a correctly functioning government. Children, the elderly, infirmed and the defenseless among us should realize all the benefits of the general welfare. Yet, perhaps the most important emphasis is to be found at the conclusion of The Preamble to our constitution. SECURE THE BLESSINGS OF LIBERTY TO OURSELVES AND OUR POSTERITY. The blessings of liberty have been purchased by the founders of this country through the spilling of blood on national and international fields of service. The lives given throughout the years have made a major difference in the purchase and defense of liberties enjoyed by Americans on a daily basis. Any President must dedicate his total energies to protecting these freedoms even from overzealous governmental bureaucrats if they are to endure. The measure for determining the success of this great nation can be measured by the fulfillment or lack thereof of the success of our preamble. It’s time as Americans to reassert our freedoms. NORTH KOREA AND ITS PARIAH ROLE THREATENING MILLIONS I recently witnessed the televised exchange on Asian Voices February 16 between Gordon Flake Executive Director of the Mansfield Foundation and Associate Professor Yongtiao of Peking University as they discussed North Korea’s recent nuclear test. Flake pointed to present U.S. treaty commitments to Japan and South Korea and emphasized North Korea’s action will result in further alienation of its government and people from the rest of the world. Flake reviewed the last twenty years of sanction failure in turning the direction of North Korea away from nuclear pursuits. Although Flake admitted heightened U.S.-China intelligence collaboration he accused the Chinese of acting as a shield for the North Koreans the last four years. He highlighted U.N. resolution 2082 against nuclear testing in the North and its failure to dissuade the North Koreans as well. Professor Yongtiao enunciated that China will work closely with the U.S. and cease relying on persuasion alone. Yongtiao felt the North will continue to pursue nuclear development and accelerate missile development. He indicated China’s pressure on the North would be at best gradual. He advocated more sanctions and his government’s desire for a stable Korean peninsula. This was a pathetically weak airing of U.S. foreign policy and Chinese resolve. Missing were any threats of reactive military force from the U.S. or China as well as no red lines or even mutually shared destruction proposals. It’s obvious that we are pursuing a failed policy that may well lead to deaths of millions of innocent civilians if ignored by our government. We must take this isolated brutal regime seriously and develop a plan that features massive force in retaliation if necessary. Dr. Alan G. Phillips, Sr.

NORTH KOREA, THE PARIAH OF THE WORLD. HAVE WE LEARNED NOTHING FROM HISTORY? One has only to revisit Winston Churchill’s analysis of Neville Chamberlain’s meetings with Adolph Hitler on German soil to uncover the dangers of appeasement. Nazi military leader Keitel answered to Czech interrogation at Nuremberg that the Germans would have retreated from Czechoslovakia quickly had westerners called their bluff. Do we honestly assume peace from the North Koreans predicated on visits from a choir of intellectual midgets like Madeline Albright, Jimmy Carter and Bill Richardson. Is it now time for the administration to make it abundantly clear that further talk and nuclear/rocket tests by one of the world’s largest totalitarian army and closed societies will provoke a massive armed response from this nation. Are we not manufacturing another Munich and will we survive if we are unwilling to use our powers against tyrants and their militaristic ambitions? North Korean rashness must now be confronted. If we stop North Korea there is a lesson to be learned by Iran. Dr. Alan G. Phillips Sr.

FROM THE ECONOMIST, FEBRUARY 12, 2013 Tonight the President of the United States will address the nation at the SOTU. North Korean nuclear threats must be confronted and encountered with this nation's military might. They began this news cycle with a simulated video of their missiles attacking New York City. Today we have been braggingly lectured by them that they have tested a miniaturized weapon that can be launched at the continental United States. It's past time that the President give them a glimpse of realism relative to the consequences they can plan on if they cross the line. Basically in a moment their puppet army and nation will cease to exist. This result of their threatenings must be conveyed to them immediately. No holds barred through diplomatic pusseyfooting. ANOTHER LOOK AT WOODROW WILSON A President’s words often define aspects of his life. I present the words of Wilson unedited as he committed our troops to war. There are, it may be, many months of fiery trial and sacrifice ahead of us. It is a fearful thing to lead this great peaceful people into war, into the most terrible and disastrous of all wars, civilization itself seeming to be in the balance. But right is more precious than peace, and we shall fight for the things which we have always carried nearest our hearts-for democracy, for the rights and liberties of small nations, for a universal dominion of right by such a concert of free peoples as shall bring peace and safety to all nations and make the world itself at last free. To such a task we can dedicate our lives and our fortunes, everything that we are and everything that we have, with the pride of those who know that the day has come when America is privileged to spend her blood and her might for the principles that gave her birth and happiness and the peace which she has treasured. God helping her, she can do no other. May all of America’s future Presidents remember President Wilson’s words. Adopted on April 6, 1917. Dr. Alan G. Phillips, Sr.

SERIOUS REFLECTIONS FROM THE OLD LION – WINSTON S. CHURCHILL In Churchill’s book, The Aftermath, he took the liberty to enumerate some of his impressions of the war, between the Armistice and changes in British Government. However his most prolific and incisive thoughts related to his premonitions of a dangerous future. I present them to all future foreign policy leaders that may need to discern a dangerous global pathway to the future. Churchill felt it was not until the dawn of the twentieth century of the Christian era that war began to enter its kingdom as the potential destroyer of the human race. It has been an ongoing revelation since Churchill’s reflections that Science has unfolded her knowledge and mysteries to the demands of men and placed in their grasp devices decisive in their character. Reflecting in the late twenties Churchill became concerned and disturbed about future possibilities of catastrophe. Certain serious facts emerge on Churchill’s figurative mountains in the mist as he examined the mortal threat to mankind. He is convinced that in the future entire populations will take part in war, all doing their best, all subjected to the fury of their enemy. It is already established that nations believing their life is at risk will not be restrained from using any means to secure their continued existence. It is probable that among the means which will next time be at a nation’s disposal will be agencies of destruction once launched will be uncontrollable. Humankind has never been in this position of terror in prior decades. Churchill believed without doubt weapons could accomplish civilization’s extermination. This question of the threat of societal termination is where the efforts of all humankind has led many to the present. Churchill thought people in national foreign policy leadership would find it helpful to pause and contemplate seriously their new responsibilities and the demands of leadership. The old lion concluded metaphorically that death stood at attention, obedient, expectant, anxious to perform and shear away civilizations in great numbers, ready if called upon to pulverize, without hope of rebirth, what is left of population. War awaits only a direction or command to act. Death awaits the order to strike from a frail, bewildered being, long his victim, now for one occasion only-his Master. In the allies’ loss of direction, in the abandonment of principles they had advocated, they allowed conditions to build up that ultimately led to war. Churchill felt their national peers and fellow global societies have only to repeat the same short sighted destructive behavior towards the 2lst century challenges to bring about a third event from which none may survive to tell the tale. Like Churchill I am convinced that foreign policy strategy and implementation is not for knee jerk impulsive neophytes who ignore salient lessons of history. Dr. Alan G. Phillips, Sr.

WORDS FROM FRANKLIN ROOSEVELT To be stricken with infantile paralysis in adult life was a tragedy in the life of the man from New York. Among limitations was the need to be carried from place to place wearing braces weighing some ten pounds. Even well managed photographs and carefully scheduled speeches were unable to overcome the visual effects of his malady. Yet within Roosevelt’s mind were to be discovered extraordinary talents and management skills that would save a nation from economic stress and war. I choose to reflect on a few of his economic observations in view of the times we are experiencing as a nation. We must not worry over the concept of fear. The nomenclature of fear by its very nature feeds off the psyche and humanizes personal threat. Hypotheticals are no more than wasted worries over outcomes that most times will not materialize. Let’s place needless fretting in the waste basket of false despair. In Roosevelt’s comments to Congress in the mid-thirties he took time to confront the matter of welfare. He told all Americans that continual dependence upon relief programs creates spiritual and moral disintegration fundamentally destructive to the national fiber. He determined that any program that doles out relief in this way is administering a narcotic a subtle destroyer of the human spirit. Roosevelt’s only answer to this level of want was to provide work for all people able to work. He is quoted as having said that “We must preserve not only the bodies of the unemployed from destitution but also personal self-respect, self-reliance, courage and determination. Roosevelt believed that the nation’s task of reconstruction did not require the creation of new and strange values but instead adherence to those ideals previously known and cherished. He felt there were people in other lands who had once fought for freedom, but who appeared now too weary to continue the fight, who perhaps had sold their soul for the illusion of living. Roosevelt believed that America’s success could stir and increase their ancient hope. In Roosevelt’s own words, “they begin to know that here in America we are waging a great and successful war. It is not alone a war against want, destitution and economic demoralization. It is more than that: it is a war for the survival of democracy. We are fighting to save a great and precious form of government for ourselves and for the world.” May his words live once more. Dr. Alan G. Phillips, Sr.

Wednesday, January 30, 2013CNSNews.TV By Charlie Daniels If you read this column very often you know the frustration and disgust I feel for our government, their profligate spending, their all consuming passion for self-preservation, and the inevitable fall at the end of the ruinous path they seem so determined to force this nation down. You know I'm deeply concerned about the rapid erosion of personal liberty and our president's cavalier attitude toward the Constitution and consolidation of power into a monolithic central, federal government, a bureaucratic nightmare that makes and enforces the rules, controlling even the administration of health care and the curriculum our children will study in school. I fear the rampant apathy and lackadaisical work ethic of the entitlement society will become so deeply ingrained in the coming generations that the nanny state policies of this president and others like him who are likely to be elected will gradually drain the wealth and the will of the population until the well is bone dry and the confusion and anger of those who are suddenly left to fend for themselves will overrun the streets of this nation resulting in chaos and bloodshed. I fear that this nation and this planet are in the midst of a great apostasy, or falling away from belief and faith in God as cults, false prophets and faddish feel-good religions pop up and capture the attention of many. Even some of the old-line Christian denominations have tried to modernize their doctrine, bending the curve to accept things that are forbidden in the Bible, conveniently ignoring or subverting scriptures that fly in the face of the new age dogma they now embrace. Anti-Semitism is on the rise around the world and while Islamic fanatics scream about the destruction of the State of Israel, the dominos in the Middle East fall one by one, with only the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan preventing the fulfillment of the ancient biblical prophecy that Jerusalem would be surrounded by armies. Yes, I am very concerned about Israel. It is not the land of my birth, but when I became a Christian I was grafted into the root of Israel like a wild olive branch grafted on to a full-grown tree. The Bible says that salvation comes to the world through the Jews, the race of people by which the Creator of all mankind chose to reveal Himself to the world, the race into which my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was born, the land where He would live and die on a cross for our sins. How could any true Christian not be concerned? Street gangs, flash mobs, drug cartels, incurable diseases, wholesale abortion the tearing down of traditional marriage and nuclear families, child molestation, the belittling of American exceptionalism, the export of manufacturing and jobs, murder, rape, home invasions, it's enough to give a person a nervous breakdown, but then I have to stop and think. This world is just a short stop, only a testing ground on my eternal journey. Any earthly leader or government, no matter how pervasive and powerful are only temporary place holders who will eventually pass into oblivion and be reduced to dust. Israel will be battered and bloody but will never be completely destroyed and 85% of the vast armies allied against her in the final battle will be annihilated in the Jezreel Valley near Megiddo, known as Armageddon. This earth with all its awesome military might, pompous politicians, mega-rich magnates and all the evil the powers of darkness can bring to bear are no more than a grain of sand compared to the indescribable power of the One who created the planets and flung them out across endless space, He who can part the sea and make the sun stand still. Only One is Omnipresent, Omniscient and Omnipotent, He is everywhere, He knows everything and He can do anything. And yet in all His Majestic might, he cares for you to the point that He knows the number of hairs on your head. His name is God, Jehovah, Yahweh, Dios to Spanish speakers, Gott to the Germans and so on, but He does have, always has had and always will have the last word and be the final judge in the affairs of mankind. He will write the final pages of history. We will all stand before Him and give account for our lives, every king, every president, every dictator, every super star, every human being. Lord, please help me to keep my confidence in You and my mind on eternal things to come. Amen. What do you think? Pray for our troops and the peace of Jerusalem. God Bless America Charlie Daniels

THE CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS AMENDMENT II A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. The gun debate is being argued in many places throughout segments of the nation. These arguments are occurring in the midst of state and local laws that have been designed and adopted for greater and more prolific statutes that have often failed to protect Americans from misuse and death. These restrictions have not worked and its wishful thinking to think they will. “The right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed, being necessary to the security of a free state.” It is past time for government to enforce the existing law against law breakers, not merely to pass more nonworking statutes. ARE TOO MANY AMERICANS OBSESSED WITH CELEBRITY? A person or object of fame or being celebrated can often be designated a good moral, ethical, honest entity to be honored with compliment an appreciation. Yet, there are some to whom this fourteenth century noun is applied that must be labeled less than honorable. Americans tend to honor most objects of fame whatever the resulting ethical judgment. One reading the recent Drudge news report can take note of a variety of ascriptions. The June 10th note that former President William Jefferson Clinton has been named by an organization as “father of the year” is I submit most interesting when viewed from almost any person’s perspective. Reviewing this year’s omission of famous baseball celebrity players from the Hall of Fame nominees list also commands attention and focus on the sport’s alleged drug problem. Some in our societal ethos are so mesmerized over meeting or thinking about a highlighted celebrity that faulty rationalism takes command of one’s senses and inaccurate ascriptions of honor and fame are less than accurate and honest. Celebrity defects can be overlooked in certain profiles of politicians, judges, movie stars, television personalities, athletes, coaches, singers and most objects of pseudo veneration. Although increased age and education can refine fame recognition and evaluation even that background often fails many among us in evaluating highlighted celebrity figures. I propose that each of us expand our horizons to include a much broader focus for this noun celebrity. It’s perfectly fine to continue our inclusion of famous human celebrities but what about including our beloved pets as well. We certainly are well educated when it comes to their strengths and weaknesses. Only recently my son, his wife and family lost their beloved dachshund of fourteen plus years. Addie was a true celebrity not only by evaluation of friends but the experience of mom, dad, and a young family. Even we grandparents loved and honored this little lady—in my opinion a deserving celebrity. I present her true story written by her dad, a devoted admirer. Alan G. Phillips, Sr. Addie Takes Charge Young couple, one month married, Time for their very first pet, “Perhaps a dog or a cat?” Not a firm decision yet. “Weenie dogs are really cute, You’ll really like their size. Short hair smooth, long ears floppy, Irresistible brown eyes.” Nothing at the local pound, Except a “tiny” great Dane, “Shoveling that manure, Though, could cause our backs some pain.” Exploring local papers, Wondering where we should go, “At last one dachshund for sale In the Riverton, Bureau.” Richard Wagner, mailman Selling his puppies homegrown, Playing toys with each other, None with mean-spirited bone. A circle around each eye, Fuzzy bunny in her mouth “Addie” leaps into our lives, And starts the journey down south. Bloomington an hour away, Phone calls begin to be made, “Look! A raccoon with babies! Come see our new dog displayed” Into the house Addie marched, Taking her place on the throne, She played all night with string balls, Gnawing a favorite wish bone. “So where does a dachshund sleep? In a box or in our bed?” Night one her master decides, Night two to bed she is led. Reigning as queen of Ardith, Knowing just what she should do, Retrieving balls for hours, Placing them next to a shoe. Her life was long, fourteen years, Filled with so many tales Perhaps a glimpse you might catch, From these poetic trails. Trip to Clinton, antique mall, The drive through at Dairy Queen Ghirardelli, Chicago, The Michigan Avenue scene. A Baker’s Square French silk pie, Sitting near Doug’s easy chair, Chomped it down lickety split Doing it with “savoir faire.” January, ninety-nine, St. Louis, thirty below, “Walk outside? Are you kidding? On Alan’s coat I will go.” In our yard, a hoagie roll Like manna fell from the skies, Clamped it down between her jaws, Determined to keep her prize. Too many tales to tell, But even good stories end, Here are a few more snap shots, Odes to a furry old friend. Summertime meant grass on her back, Butter with corn if you please, Rolling in rabbit doogie, Yet somehow avoiding flees. Drinking water made her hack, Pluck her belly, hear the goose. A hotdog on Halloween, The only time she broke loose. Friend to all dogs, East and West, But Audrie was her best pal, Accomplice in chasing squirrels, At fences digging canals. She’d shake to get a cookie, Chomp, chomp went the crocodile. “Be Easy, Addie! Easy!” See how the dachshund smiles. Under the covers she went, Always a blow hole appeared, Like Shaw shank bored through Sherpa, There’s nothing she ever feared. Her energy was endless, Except when taking a walk, She never liked grass when wet, Nor jingles around the block. But saying “Goodbye” is hard, Knowing that she was our first, Sharing memories with us, The best of life at its worst. So thank you Addie Paddie, By you our lives were blessed, In Heav’n now chasing ballies All playtime without a rest. *Addie was born on April 30, 1998 and died January 3, 2013, while we were visiting Karrah’s family in Provo, UT. She passed quietly while sleeping in bed (with us!). She was Rick and Karrah Phillips’ first dog and long-time friend of the dachshund Audrie, more recently of the dachshund

We are all beginning a new year filled with many surprises some pleasant and other experiences disappointing. Yet the nation persists with it's Constitution and the freedoms we are guaranteed. This great country remains the best hope of the world for those still looking for a new day. People of the world seek freedom's gift constantly and the hope it brings to all willing and able to dream. America is still enduring in spite of domestic and global trials. In God We Trust is not simply an inscription for our coins- -but also for our hearts. Keep faith in America whatever you hear. Dr. Alan G. Phillips, Sr.
